How to thread eyebrows / come depilare le sopracciglia con la tecnica del filo

Today I want to talk about eyebrows threading, a technique that might seem intimidating but that it’s actually easy and everybody can try it at home! eyebrows can totally change the expression of your face, they can make a huge difference in how your eyes look, they frame them and they can open up your look or make your eyes look droopy, that’s why it’s important to know what shape suits us best.

Threading is an alternative to tweezers, faster and suitable for peach fuzz on your cheeks, upper lip and chin. It’s more precise than waxing, especially on small areas like eyebrows where we need the shape to be neat and we need total control on the epilation process, that’s why I prefer it over waxing. This technique has got its origin in middle east and it’s really old,some says it started over 6000 years ago but that’s just a theory as there isn’t any solid proof to support it. Now  it’s quite common in Europe and the U.S. as well, there are many salons where you can get your eyebrows threaded.

What do you need to do it at home ? a cotton thread,nothing fancy, just a thin cotton thread that you’ve probably got home.

How to start? First step is to decide what shape you’re going for. If you haven’t got a clue I suggest you to look at photos and to experiment with an eye pencil on your eyebrows, that way you will see how each shape look on your face and you will be able to choose the one that suits you better than the rest.

Step two : prepare your eyebrows by trimming them to get rid of long hairs: comb them upwards with a spoolie and cut off the excess.

Once you’ve done that, it’s time to prepare your thread, and the first thing to do is to cut a piece of thread about the length of your forearm , and tie the ends together to create a loop, a circle.

The next step is very important, because it’s the key to thread your eyebrows successfully: you might need practice to master the right way to  handle the thread, but don’t give up, keep trying and you’ll get there!

Put your thumb and your index fingers inside the circle and stretch it as much as possible; roll your right hand clockwise five or six times, till you have about 2/3 cm of intertwined thread between your hands. you should have an hourglass shape between your hands, if you followed each steps correctly.

Before starting threading test the thread by opening one hand and closing the other one at the same time in a scissors like movement: this is the movement that will pull hairs out .

Apply face powder all around your eyebrows , it will help to pull out hairs easily.

Now you’re ready to start threading: place the twisted thread where there are hairs you want to remove, and start doing the scissors movement. Make sure to thread in the opposite direction of hair growth.

Keep threading till you get the shape you were going for, and keep practicing to master your craft!

Oggi voglio parlare di una tecnica di depilazione per sopracciglia,che potrebbe spaventare ma che, in realtà, è semplice da provare a casa, tutti possono riuscirci! Le sopracciglia possono cambiare completamente l’espressione di un volto, fanno la differenza per quel che riguarda l’apertura dello sguardo, possono aprirlo oppure darvi un’espressione cupa, incorniciano il viso, insomma sono fondamentali, ecco perché è importante capire qual è la forma che si adatta meglio ai nostri lineamenti.

La depilazione col filo è un alternativa alle pinzette,più veloce e indicata anche per la peluria sulle guance, labbro superiore e mento. È più precisa della ceretta, specialmente in piccole aree come quella intorno alle sopracciglia, dove vogliamo una forma definita e vogliamo avere il controllo totale su tutti passaggi della depilazione, tutti motivi per cui la preferisco alla ceretta.questa tecnica è nata in medio oriente ed è molto antica, si dice che risalga addirittura a 6000 anni fa, ma non ci sono prove certe, si tratta solo di una teoria. Ormai è molto diffusa sia in Europa che in America, ci sono molti istituti di bellezza dove potete provarla!

Cosa vi serve per farla a casa: filo di cotone, non un tipo particolare, il classico filo di cotone che tutti abbiamo in casa.

Come cominciare? Il primo passo è quello di stabilire quale forma vogliamo. Se non avete idea di quale scegliere, vi consiglio di cercare immagini su google e di fare prove con una matita, ridisegnando le vostre sopracciglia per capire quale forma si adatta meglio al vostro viso, questo vi aiuterà molto a vedere le diverse forme su di voi e non solo su altre persone.

Secondo passaggio: preparate le sopracciglia tagliando i peli più lunghi: pettinatele verso l’alto con uno scovolino e tagliate i peli che sporgono .

Una volta fatto questo,è arrivato il momento di preparare il filo, e la prima cosa da fare è tagliarne un pezzo lungo, più o meno, quanto il vostro avambraccio; legate poi le estremità in modo da formare un cerchio.

Il passaggio successivo è fondamentale, perché è la chiave per riuscire nella depilazione col filo: dovrete esercitarvi per diventare esperte nel maneggiare il filo, ma non scoraggiatevi, provate e riprovate , vedrete che alla fine ci riuscirete!

Mettete i pollici e gli indici all’interno del cerchio e allargatelo il più possibile;ruotate la mano destra in senso orario per cinque o sei volte, fino ad ottenere circa 2/3 cm di filo arrotolato tra le mani . a questo punto, se avete eseguito tutti i passaggi correttamente, dovreste aver ottenuto una forma a clessidra.

Prima di iniziare la depilazione vera e propria fate delle prove aprendo una mano e chiudendo l’altra contemporaneamente, in un movimento a forbice, che sarà quello che estirperà i peli.

Applicate della polvere viso intorno alle sopracciglia, aiuterà ad intrappolare i peli e ad estirparli senza fatica.

A questo punto siete pronte per depilare le sopracciglia: posizionate la parte di filo intrecciato dove ci sono i peli che volete eliminare, e cominciate a fare il movimento delle forbici che ho appena descritto. Assicuratevi di depilare in senso opposto a quello della crescita del pelo.

Continuate fino a che non otterrete la forma desiderata,e continuate ad esercitarvi in modo da diventare esperte!
