Divas nostalgia: Greta Garbo inspired look

After my Marilyn inspired make up I thought it would’ve been interesting to recreate other diva’s look, iconic looks that influenced trends , that all women looked up to and that marked the era they were born in. with this look we’re going back to the 30’s and we’re going to try to recreate Greta Garbo’s makeup: for those of you who’re not familiar with her, she is the personification of the 30’s make up trends and she was a Swedish actress who became one of the most famous Hollywood icon. She was very glamorous , classy, stylish, surrounded by an aura of mystery that became stronger when she retired, at 35, in 1941.She was the ultimate diva, she never signed autographs, she was never seen in public, and she once said , "I never said, 'I want to be alone'; I only said, 'I want to be let alone.' There is a world of difference."She never got married and she didn’t have children.

Her makeup was flawless , she used rice powder on her face to keep it matte and to minimize any fine lines. Her eye make up features a dark brown or black cut crease going downward on the outer corner, almost till the upper lid. It’s not brought too high up towards the brow bone and it’s not blended too much, it’s quite sharp and defined. On the lid I applied a white color, while I picked a champagne color under my brow bone. All eye shadows are matte and neutral, for a glamorous and classy look. She used eyeliner but, instead of a cat eye, she drew the line close to the lash line and, on the outer corner, it goes a bit downward to give the eye a forlorn look , that was part of her appeal. Lips were very fine and stretched. The top of lips were round and sometimes the upper lip was made up to look longer. Blush was very discreet and usually in brown tones.

Dopo il look ispirato a Marilyn ho pensato che sarebbe stato interessante proporne altri sulla stessa linea, ispirati a dive che hanno influenzato le tendenze della loro epoca, imitate dalle loro contemporanee e non solo. Con il look di oggi andiamo negli anni 30, e proviamo a riprodurre il trucco di Greta Garbo: per chi non la conoscesse, è l’incarnazione delle tendenze degli anni ’30, era un’attrice svedese diventata una delle più famose icone hollywoodiane. Era molto raffinata, elegante, affascinante e misteriosa, e l’aura di mistero che la circondava divenne più forte dopo il suo ritiro, nel 1941, a soli 35 anni. Era la diva per antonomasia, non si vedeva mai in pubblico e non firmava autografi, e una volta disse: non ho mai detto di voler essere sola, ho detto di voler essere lasciata in pace. C’è una differenza abissale.”

Il suo makeup era impeccabile, usava polvere di riso per mantenere la pelle opaca e minimizzare le rughette d’espressione. Il trucco occhi era caratterizzato da una linea marrone scuro o nero  nella piega dell’occhio che scendeva fino all’angolo esterno, quasi a toccarlo.  Non veniva sfumata molto verso l’alto, rimaneva piuttosto netta e definita, e non si alzava nemmeno molto verso le sopracciglia. Sulla palpebra mobile ho applicato un bianco opaco, mentre sotto l’arcata sopraccigliare ho scelto un color champagne. Tutti gli ombretti usati sono opachi, per un risultato impeccabile e raffinato. Usava l’eyeliner ma, invece di alzare la codina come siamo abituate oggi, tracciava una linea molto vicina alle ciglia e la codina si allungava leggermente verso il basso, dando allo sguardo un’aria triste e languida, che faceva parte del suo fascino. Le labbra erano sottili e allungate, con l’arco di cupido ben delineato, e a volte il labbro superiore veniva modificato con il tratto di matita per farlo sembrare più lungo. Il blush era molto discreto e di solito nei toni del marrone.
